God’s Word for Children

Luke 1:26-33

26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; [a]blessed are you among women!”

29 But [b]when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

Lesson:

Sometimes we do things that aren’t nice.  We take things that aren’t ours or we say mean words.  Maybe we hit someone or say something that isn’t true.  When we do that, our hearts get hard, and mean, and crabby.  That makes us sad and we need help to make our hearts clean again, but we don’t know how.  God knows that and so He sent us the Savior.

Savior is a big word that means someone who saves us.  We need to be saved from our hearts that are made ‘dirty’ when we do things we know aren’t right. The Savior that God sent is His own Son, Jesus.  And when Jesus came here from heaven, He started out just like you and I did – He started as a baby. When He grew up, He taught people about God’s love and how we can have clean hearts.  That’s how much He loves us.

Jesus’ mommy was a lady name Mary.  When God chose her to be Jesus’ mommy, He sent an angel to tell her the good news.  Mary was afraid at first, but the angel told her she didn’t need to be afraid.   He told her she was blessed – that God had a good plan for her. He told her that she would have a baby boy and His name would be Jesus.

God had a plan for Mary, and He has a plan for you, too.  His plans are for good things because He loves us so much.  So if you feel afraid like Mary did, remember that God has a plan for you and it is for your good.  He loves you so much that you can trust Him, just like Mary did.
