For years, Helping Hands has been making posters out of the pictures from old calendars. We glue those pictures to poster board. Bible verses in Bulgarian are then printed onto address labels and placed on the posters. These are distributed to the elderly, sick and disabled people in Bulgaria that we assist through Helping Hands Eastern European Ministries. We started also doing this in Chicago a few years ago because there are thousands of Bulgarian immigrants living there.
Many of the recipients appreciate these posters because they have a Bible verse they can easily see and appreciate. Most are probably selected because they like the picture too.
For this activity, use old calendar pictures, trim them and glue them onto pieces of poster board. Print Bible verses or hymns on address labels and attach them to the pictures.
You can give calendar posters to your grandparents, the elderly, sick and disabled that live near you. There is probably someone that can deliver these to people living in nursing homes or to the shut-ins that live in your area. You might want to write your first name on the back along with a few interesting things like your favorite sport, food, book or hobby.
Students that like to write stories could write about your special skills including being able to speak a foreign language, or a character’s special skills and how they helped someone in a tough situation.
Another activity would involve students writing their first name, a few lines describing their family, their interests and hobbies. Include favorite music, sports teams, if you play an instrument, favorite food, favorite Bible verse or story, favorite computer game, etc. These can all be compiled on a list and emailed to the address to be provided.
